This book is a pre-intermediate Japanese text that aims to help learners who have completed the beginner level of Japanese continue solidifying their language skills for establishing themselves at the CEFR-B1 or ACTFL-Intermediate-mid level.
Through completing various activities, learners will develop language proficiency, the ability to use Japanese more freely and accurately, and express themselves in more detail about every-day and cultural topics around them.
It is a learning material that can be used not only by those who have studied Elementary Japanese:PANORAMA, the first volume of the PANORAMA series, but also by anyone who has completed the beginner's level.
10 broad and familiar topics One of the important learning objectives at the pre-intermediate level is that learners can talk about their experiences and can express their ideas and opinions on familiar topics. This book helps learners develop language skills necessary to achieve the goals by providing activities such as reading, speaking, writing, researching, and presenting on the 10 broad and familiar topics. Rich and diverse learning activities Each main topic has three subtopics (Topic 1 has four subtopics). Each subtopic contains a series of step-by-step activities ranging from exercises on vocabulary and expressions, reading practices, paired conversation activities, writing practices, and presentation activities where learners summarize their experiences and thoughts and present them in class.
Utilization of technology This book allows students to proceed individual learning of the words, kanji, and example sentences required for the activities by using the Kanji Module on the dedicated website and a spaced-repetition learning app. Students can learn efficiently through a well-balanced combination of collaborative work with classmates with this textbook and individual learning.
Many elementary-level texts are designed in a way that covers the beginner learning items in two separate volumes (the first half in the first volume and the second half in the second volume). This approach forces learners to start learning intermediate materials without first having sufficient opportunities to use learned beginner items in various contexts.
In contrast, the PANORAMA series introduces all the beginner learning items in the first volume, and the second volume provides additional activities when learners perform various tasks using the skills cultivated in the first volume. This approach allows learners to spend a sufficient time to develop solid pre-intermediate proficiency efficiently and helps them begin intermediate learning seamlessly.
